I’m an impressionistic landscape painter, and my work is driven by movement, color, and instinct.
I paint fast, make quick decisions, and layer marks until the painting feels alive. My goal is to capture sunlight. I listen to dance music while I work, and yes — I’m freestyle dancing like the music owes me money. My goal is flow. If I’m thinking too hard, I’m doing it wrong.
A lot of my inspiration comes from being outside — wandering woods and shorelines, watching light change, and foraging for wild mushrooms. I think about painting the same way I think about foraging: getting a little lost on purpose, trusting intuition, and eventually coming back with something good.
I grew up on a small farm in Midland, Michigan, where animals were part of daily life. I once had a pet pig named Tilly and a chicken who came to the cottage with us (a little red hen named Chicky Baby). That mix of nature, curiosity, and humor still finds its way into my work.
I earned a BFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of Michigan and a BA in Chemistry from Albion College. I now split my time between Michigan and Florida, painting wherever curiosity — + good music and a splash of wine — leads.
My work is represented by Somebody’s Gallery in Petoskey, Michigan.
